THE city’s tourism sector received a total of 3.38 million visits and recorded an impressive revenue of 1.79 billion yuan (US$249.31 million) during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, up 34.92% and 26.68% year on year respectively, hitting a new high in the past five years, data from the tourism administration showed.

The city’s major tourist attractions received a total of 715,600 visits, and earned 39.74 million yuan, up 27.20% and 11.49% respectively.

Window of the World, Happy Valley, Golden Bay Water World, Splendid China Folk Culture Villages and OCT East emerged as the top five attractions with the most visits.

“We received a total of 40,000 visitors in three days, much better than business during the Qingming Festival holiday,” Tang Wancai, a marketing employee from Window of the World, said.

Among the  visitors, two-thirds were from Shenzhen, 23% were from other cities in Guangdong Province, and 10% were from outside Guangdong.

Data from the Huanggang Exit and Entry Inspection Station showed that during the holiday period from Thursday to Saturday, a staggering 560,000 people crossed the border via Futian and Huanggang checkpoints. Futian Checkpoint alone facilitated 460,000 passenger trips.

On a broader scale, the country’s transport terminals recorded a total of 106 million passenger trips over the three-day holiday period, up 32.3% year on year and surpassing the 2019 figure by 1.12 times. The tourism sector generated a substantial revenue of 37.3 billion yuan, up 44.5% year on year and reaching about 94.9% of the revenue in 2019.
