An international competition was launched to seek the best design of the area, attracting 54 organizations from 10 countries and regions around the world including Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP, and Tekuma Frenchman Urban Design LLC, among others. The potential development of the Jiuwei area can also be attributed to the district’s current efforts in building a world-class business circle, its advanced manufacturing industry, together with the R&D strength of the nearby universities such as Pengcheng Laboratory and the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). This year, Shenzhen officially proposed to build a world-class airport economic belt, hoping to make full use of the airport to build a platform for the high-quality development of airport economy and support international enterprises in the GBA to realize rapid industrialization and marketization. Moreover, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) took effect Jan. 1 last year, making the RCEP the largest free trade area in the world. The new framework allows companies in the GBA to tap into the supply chain and demand in those markets through the RCEP framework. At the same time, GBA has also made efforts in improving scientific and technological innovation, promoting the coordinated development of industries on the east and west sides of the Pearl River, and creating opportunities for future industrial innovation. |
