THE Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) and Shenzhen University (SZU) were listed among the top 100 universities in Asia, according to the Asia University Rankings 2023 released by Times Higher Education (THE).

Specifically, SUSTech ranked 23rd and SZU ranked 71st. Among all the listed universities on the Chinese mainland, SUSTech ranked eighth.

THE released the 11th edition of its Asia University Rankings on June 22, with this year ranking 669 universities (up from 616 last year) from 31 countries and regions in Asia.

The first and second spots were taken by Tsinghua University and Peking University, while National University of Singapore ranked third, according to the rankings.

Tsinghua University has retained its top spot for the fifth year in a row since 2019, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

The 669 universities were assessed across six categories to capture university performance including teaching (25%), research (30%), citations (30%), international outlook (7.5%) and industry income (7.5%).

SUSTech ranked 23rd in Asia and topped all the listed universities on the Chinese mainland in terms of the citations indicator.

Other listed Chinese universities include the University of Hong Kong (fourth) and Fudan University (ninth). (Wang Jingli)
