Smooth sailing on new waterway
    2023-06-29  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Container ship Berlin Express owned by Hapag-Lloyd berths at Mawan smart port in Nanshan District in this photo released yesterday. The vessel, with a length of 399.9 meters and a load capacity of 225,000 metric tons, navigated through the relatively busy and narrow Tonggu Channel successfully Tuesday night for its next destination. The success showcased the channel’s ability to handle full container ships round the clock and is of great importance to enhance the overall competitiveness of Shenzhen Port. Tonggu Channel, a newly developed deep-water channel connecting the Pearl River Estuary and the open sea, operates 24 hours a day and can alleviate the traffic congestion at Mawan waterway and promote the development of Shenzhen’s western port area.
