New parks enrich SZ landscape
    2023-07-07  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SHENZHEN has recently added an array of new parks to its ever-growing landscape. Whether you are a fitness enthusiast seeking smart facilities or a nature lover yearning for tranquil escapes or a railway aficionado fascinated with vintage train stations, these new parks encompass a diverse range of offerings to cater to everyone’s unique taste. Discover the marvels of these parks as they continue to enrich our lives.

Railway Cultural Park 铁路文化公园

Once an abandoned area along the old Pinghu-Nantou Railway, the 10,000-square-meter Railway Cultural Park has been revitalized into a nice little park, creating a harmonious blend of railway history and nature. Adorned with nostalgic remnants of the past such as retro station signs, quaint rails, classic locomotive wheels and vintage signal lamps, the park is not only an ideal Instagrammable spot but also serves as a tribute to Chinese railway history. Amid its historical charm, there are flamboyant flowers and lush plants that flourish in the park, all of which are complemented by an ecological drainage system that benefits residents in the neighborhood.

Add: Beside Jiangong Village, Nanshan District (南山区建工村旁)

Metro: Line 12 to Tongle South Station (同乐南站), Exit A and then walk northeastward for 1 km

Zero Carbon Park 零碳公园

In the scorching summer heat, there’s nothing quite like indulging in the refreshing joy of water play. At the Zero Carbon Park in Longgang District, visitors of all ages can immerse themselves in an enticing area dedicated to this exhilarating activity. What sets it apart is the smart use of unpowered facilities, adding an eco-friendly element to the fun.

The Zero Carbon Park is a remarkable testament to a fully integrated zero-carbon experience. With dry streams and a rain garden, the park ensures efficient water management, achieving the sponge city function and low-impact development. It also features children’s recreational facilities and innovative 5G lights, minimizing energy consumption without compromising on fun and safety.

Taking advantage of the natural topography, the park beautifully preserves the original hill landscape and crafts hand-made footpaths using nearby tree logs and stones. It boasts a rich variety of native plants and carbon-sequestration plants, contributing to the local ecosystem’s sustainability. Furthermore, the park harnesses solar energy for its lighting needs, exemplifying its dedication to renewable resources and reducing Shenzhen’s carbon footprint.
