THE Shenzhen Concert Hall and the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra (SZSO) have arranged for a series of concerts to be performed in July.

On Friday, Belarusian pianist Andrey Ponochevny will give a recital dedicated to Rachmaninoff, as this year marks the 150th birth anniversary of this legendary composer of modern Romanticism. The program will include “Prelude in D Minor, Op. Posthumous,” “Piano Piece in A-flat Major, Op. Posthumous,” “13 Preludes, Op. 32,” “Cello Sonata: Andante,” “9 Etudes-Tableaux, Op.39” and “Piano Sonata No. 1 in D Minor, Op. 28.”

Ponochevny won the bronze medal at the XIII Tchaikovsky competition in 2002 in Moscow and a prize at the AXA International Piano Competition in 2005 in Dublin.

Time: 7:30 p.m., July 14

Tickets: 80-380 yuan

On July 29, pianist Xue Yingjia will perform a concert dedicated to Brahms, who was born 190 years ago. The program will include “Six Pieces for Piano, Op. 118” and “Four Pieces for Piano, Op. 119,” the last two piano works by Brahms, as well as “Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Handel, Op. 24,” meant as a birthday gift for Clara Schumann. Xue won the first prize in the Skryabin International Piano Competition (Paris) in 2004, and the only Grand Prize in the Yamaha International Piano Competition (Belgium) in 2005.

On July 30, young pianist Ju Xiaofu will perform a concert that features the works of various composers of distinctive styles. The program will include Janáček’s poignant piano sonata “From the Street,” Bach’s “Prelude and Fugue in E Minor,” Ravel’s “The Tomb of Couperin,” as well as works by Liszt and Shostakovich. Praised by late Austrian pianist and composer Joerg Demus as an extremely talented pianist with profoundness, Ju was trained at the Julliard School.
