PHASE II of Metro Line 8 completed its hot sliding test yesterday, entering a new stage of comprehensive joint tests and paving the way for trial operation by the end of this year.

The trial train started from Honganwei Station and concluded its journey at Xiaomeisha Station. It operated at speeds ranging from 30 to 80 kilometers per hour during the approximately 40-minute round trip. The test results showed the pantograph and contact wire nets were in excellent working conditions, and all the collected data met the expected standards.

According to China Communications Construction Corp., the project’s contractor, the hot sliding test was a comprehensive evaluation of the Metro line’s various systems including the railway, power supply, communication, signal and electromechanical subsystems when the contact wire net was loaded with electricity. With the successful completion of the hot sliding test, the project will transition to the joint testing and trial operation preparation phase.

Phase II of Line 8 extends from Yantian Road Station of Phase I to Xiaomeisha Station. It covers a distance of 8 kilometers with four stations, namely Honganwei, Yantianxu, Dameisha and Xiaomeisha stations.

Once operational, the line will serve as a vital transportation artery, serving commuters traveling between Luohu and Yantian districts. Additionally, it will offer direct Metro connectivity to popular tourist destinations such as Dameisha and Xiaomeisha through its integration with Phase I of Line 8 and Phase III of Line 2.
