Flood alert CHINA’S Ministry of Water Resources said it will continue taking precautions against flooding and heavy rains triggered by Typhoon Talim in South China. The Beilunhe River and its tributary in Guangxi had both seen water levels rising above flood-alert marks, said the ministry Tuesday. The ministry is maintaining its Level IV emergency response for flooding with four of its working groups on sites to provide guidance on flood control. New species discovered SINCE 2018, a total of 17 new species have been discovered at Mount Fanjingshan in Southwest China’s Guizhou Province, according to local authorities. Fanjingshan has continuously strengthened resource investigation and biodiversity research, and comprehensively promoted species protection. The new species include 10 spiders, one longicorn, two small mammals and four plants, said Li Haibo, an official with the management bureau of the Fanjingshan National Nature Reserve. Data shows that Fanjingshan is home to 3,117 animals and 4,783 plants. Drugs seized HONG KONG Customs stepped up enforcement at Hong Kong International Airport from January to June to combat the smuggling of dangerous drugs through air cargo and air passenger channels, seizing about 2.3 cubic tons of suspected dangerous drugs. During the period, the amount of dangerous drugs seized registered a substantial increase of 81% when compared with the same period in 2022, official data showed Tuesday. |
