Emergency response CHINA’S Ministry of Water Resources on Wednesday activated a level-IV emergency response to flooding and drought in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. Heavy rains will lash parts of the region, causing the water levels of rivers to rise sharply, the ministry said. Multiple rivers are expected to see their water levels exceed warning lines, according to the ministry. It will dispatch two teams to Beijing and Hebei to aid flood prevention work. Legal assistance IN the first half of this year, procuratorates across China assisted elderly people, disabled people and women suffering domestic violence in filing 43,000 civil lawsuits, 21.9% more than the figure for 2022, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP) said Wednesday. Those people who receive assistance faced harm to their interests but were afraid to file lawsuits or had no knowledge on the subject, according to the SPP. In the first half of 2023, Chinese procuratorates also provided assistance to 37,000 legal case victims who were facing living difficulties, up 65.7% year on year, the SPP said. Kuaizhou-1A rocket CHINA successfully launched a Kuaizhou-1A carrier rocket to send four new satellites into space from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in Northwest China at 11:20 a.m. Thursday. The four satellites, belonging to the Tianmu-1 meteorological constellation, have entered the planned orbit. They will mainly be used to provide commercial meteorological data services. |
