SHENZHEN enterprises have secured five gold awards for patents and appearance designs at the 24th China Patent Award, according to the results released recently by the organizer, the China National Intellectual Property Administration.

Shenzhen clinched 98 awards, including gold, silver and excellence awards, at the patent award, accounting for 10.47% of the total.

Among the awards for patents, the treatment methods and system of monitoring devices and physiological parameters developed by Shenzhen Mindray Bio-Medical Electronics Co. Ltd., the online measurement method of three-dimensional power distribution in the reactor core developed by China Nuclear Power Technology Research Institute Co. Ltd., and the optical system for gene sequencers developed by BGI won gold awards.

The designs of an unmanned aerial vehicle by DJI and the W82 TV set by Shenzhen Skyworth-RGB Electronics Co. Ltd. received gold awards for appearance designs.

The entries for the China Patent Award showed Shenzhen’s innovation strength and its robust development momentum in diverse industries, including biomedicine, new energy, communications, the internet, smart robotics and equipment manufacturing, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

Shenzhen was selected as a pilot city for establishing a model of intellectual property protection in 2022. By May 2023, the number of valid patents in Shenzhen stood at 264,200, accounting for 7.33% of the country’s total, the Daily report said.

The number of patents for every 10,000 residents in the city is 149.6 pieces, 5.9 times the level of the national average.

The China Patent Award, initiated in 1989, is the country’s most prestigious accolade for patents.
