“THE main goal is to promote the Shenzhen image. So I think it is very important to gather and meet every once in a while,” said Louay Ali Dib, a Syrian computer engineer and one member of the first batch of Shenzhen Global Communication Ambassadors, after a charity concert held in the Bay Opera of Shenzhen in Bao’an District on Sunday.

Dib and three other Shenzhen Global Communication Ambassadors, along with their families, participated in the 2023 Shenzhen Music and Art Week (French Horn) Charity Concert, which marked the first event for the ambassadors since the Shenzhen Global Communication Ambassador Program was launched June 10.

“I’m excited about this place. I haven’t explored everything yet, but it seems like the kind of place I’d like to hang out with friends. At this event, we [ambassadors] can also discuss how to promote [Shenzhen] on social media,” Dib told Shenzhen Daily.

The concert featured performances by winners of the Gebr. Alexander’s French Horn Competition and the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra. The event reached its pinnacle during the last two performances when the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra graced the stage.

After the concert, many were still left in a state of awe, including Tafadzwa Kadere from the U.K. He exclaimed, “What a fantastic activity. We got to see the French horn. And I was blown away by the harmonies. At one point, there were about 12 people on the stage playing together; it was fantastic. I can’t wait for the next activity.”

Another communication ambassador Keyth Cristina Nascimento Guimaraes, a political communication analyst from Brazil, shared her appreciation for the experience. “Getting to know this theater has been amazing because it is a very beautiful place,” she said.

Guimaraes has been in Shenzhen for three years and it was her first time to visit and enjoy music at the Bay Opera of Shenzhen. “It is very good to know this beautiful, amazing place in Shenzhen, which is a modern, cultural city. It welcomes people of all nationalities, not only Chinese, but also many foreigners.”

Launched by Shenzhen Daily, the Shenzhen Global Communication Ambassador Program aims to create an international communication community in Shenzhen. It invites Chinese and expats who are actively involved in the city’s foreign exchange and international communication, and who hold influence in their respective fields, to serve as global communication ambassadors.

They will share their Shenzhen stories in various city image promotion and cultural exchange activities, as well as on social media platforms at home and abroad, presenting to the world Shenzhen’s diversity, innovation, openness and inclusiveness.
