Plans rolled out to crack down overseas telecom fraud
    2023-08-08  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee has recently announced its plans to enhance measures against overseas telecom fraud and conduct more rigorous investigations into criminal gangs that collude with foreign forces.

The announcement took place at a recent plenary meeting of the commission, the Economic Daily reported Sunday. During the meeting, a proposal was put forth to tackle overseas telecom fraud systematically. Emphasis was placed on cracking down on domestic criminal elements and bolstering public awareness.

The meeting noted that in recent years, overseas telecom fraud syndicates have been using deceptive tactics, such as false promises of high salaries, to lure and intimidate Chinese individuals into engaging in fraudulent activities. These syndicates have also established networks of criminal elements involved in violent detention and human trafficking.

Commission officials highlighted the well-organized nature of overseas telecom fraud groups, emphasizing the need for strengthened international cooperation in disrupting such activities alongside partner countries.

Furthermore, considering the emergence of new fraudulent methods involving technologies like blockchain, Metaverse, virtual currency, and AI, the commission emphasized the importance of collaboration among public security, finance, telecommunications, and cyberspace-related authorities. They stressed the application of advanced technologies to effectively combat these crimes.

The meeting urged the public security and judicial departments to enhance public awareness regarding these issues.
