Tibetan studies

AN international seminar on Tibetan studies will be held in Beijing in mid-August for academics to discuss the latest in Tibetology research, the organizer said yesterday.

The seminar, the seventh of its kind since 1991, is scheduled from Aug. 14-16 and will be attended by more than 300 scholars from China and overseas, according to the China Tibetology Research Center (CTRC).

The event will cover various topics such as education, Tibetan Buddhism, social transformation and change, and architecture and living conditions on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, said Li Zuotai, an official with CTRC.

Car accident

A CAR accident in Chifeng, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, killed three people and left three others injured Monday.

The incident occurred along the S206 road in the Guanjiaying Village section of the city’s Songshan District, the district police bureau said in a statement Monday evening.

FAST telescope

A TEAM of Chinese engineers have designed an intelligent robotic car that can clean, repair and complete replacement work on the country’s Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST), the world’s largest single-dish and most sensitive radio telescope.

The robocar is capable of running in all directions and fulfilling replacement tasks automatically even on a 56-degree steep slope, according to the designers of the robot.
