NANA AKUA OWUSU AFRIYIEH, deputy head of Mission of the Embassy of the Republic of Ghana in China, made a call for collaboration between Shenzhen and cities in Ghana, including the capital, Accra, to further develop green technologies at the BRI Green Innovation Conference 2023, which opened yesterday at the Wuzhou Guest House in Futian District.

Afriyieh said in a keynote speech that African countries are striving for green energy transformation. She acknowledged China’s pioneering role in the field of green technology, particularly in solar energy and electric vehicles.

She urged Shenzhen, which has a friendship-city relationship with Accra, to extend its support to Accra and Kumasi, Ghana’s second-largest city, in their pursuit of green technologies.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), a global cooperation platform that symbolizes China’s visionary approach and offers solutions to global governance reforms and multifaceted challenges.

At the same time, the third edition of the Belt and Road Environmental Policies and Regulations Blue Book was officially released by Zhang Yali, deputy director of the Shenzhen Municipal Ecology and Environment Bureau, at the conference yesterday.

The latest report focuses on renewable energy, with a specific emphasis on hydropower, wind and solar energy, to identify opportunities for investment cooperation in these sectors.

The first and second reports of the blue book were unveiled in 2020 and 2021, respectively.

The BRI Green Innovation Conference serves as a platform for sharing China’s ecological civilization and green development concepts, practices and achievements. It facilitates technology exchanges and project collaborations and aims to promote green technologies and projects among the countries and regions participating in the Belt and Road Initiative.

The conference has been successfully held for three sessions. This year’s conference will wrap up tomorrow with forums and meetings spotlighting high-quality development for the green Belt and Road.
