SHENZHEN Book City CBD Store was buzzing with excitement on the afternoon of Saturday as a creatively unique book launch event took place. The highly anticipated release of “Influential Figures in Chinese Cuisine: Chen Hanzong” filled the air with culinary delights and culture.

The book is the second installment of the “Heritage of Taste” series and tells the story of Chen Hanzong, a Shenzhen chef and entrepreneur who is a pioneer in the promotion of Chinese oyster culture. With his passion for oysters, Chen has made remarkable achievements in the field of oyster cuisine. Meticulously studying the distinct flavors and nutritional value of oysters, he incorporates them into Chinese cooking, creating a tantalizing array of oyster dishes known as the “Nine Styles of Oysters.” The book details Chen’s struggles and ultimate success in the catering industry, capturing his story of determination as well as his incorporation of his local cuisine.

The author of the book, Huang Jinglin, is a well-known lifestyle influencer in China, adept at capturing the beauty in the minutiae of life. Reflecting on the creative process, Huang expressed, “Mr. Chen’s culinary journey has been filled with hardship and struggles, but he persevered in his pursuit of excellence, always maintaining his love and dedication to cooking. He infused his wisdom and creativity into every dish, allowing people to experience the infinite charm of Chinese cuisine while savoring its flavors.”

During the book launch event, Chen shared his unique insights into oyster cooking. Industry experts from the culinary field were invited to discuss the significance and influence of oyster cuisine within Chinese gastronomy.

“Through today’s book launch event, I hope to let more people understand the unique charm of oyster cuisine and the vastness of Chinese cuisine. Let us embark on a delightful journey and experience the limitless allure of Chinese cuisine,” said Chen.

The book is available at major Xinhua Bookstores nationwide, as well as on online platforms such as Dangdang, JD.com, and Tmall.

The first installation of the “Heritage of Taste” series, published by the Qingdao Publishing House, consists of four books, each introducing a top-level Chinese culinary master representing Shandong cuisine, Sichuan cuisine, Huaiyang cuisine, and Chinese artistic cuisine. These masters embody the essence of Chinese flavors and are pioneers of contemporary Chinese gastronomy.
