Coal mine blast

ELEVEN people were killed in an explosion in a coal mine in Yanchuan County, Shaanxi Province, on Monday, local authorities said yesterday.

The explosion ripped through the Xintai coal mine in Hejiaya Village, Yanchuan County in the city of Yan’an at 8:26 p.m. Monday when 90 people were working underground, officials said.

International fair

THE 23rd China International Fair for Investment & Trade (CIFIT) will be held from Sept. 8 to 11 in Xiamen, East China’s Fujian Province, the organizer said yesterday.

Covering more than 120,000 square meters, the four-day event will hold fairs on topics including intelligent manufacturing, digital economy, green and low-carbon, and rural revitalization, said Chen Chunjiang, assistant minister of commerce, at a press conference.

The fair is expected to attract about 80,000 merchants from nearly 100 countries and regions, Chen said.

Shield tunnel

CHINA drilled a tunnel through for expressway transport in Beijing on Monday. It is the longest expressway tunnel in the country created using the shield-tunneling method.

With a total length of 7.4 km, the tunnel is designed to have a two-way six-lane expressway on the middle level, smoke vent on the upper level and evacuation and rescue routes on the lower level, according to Beijing Capital Highway Development Group Co. Ltd., the project contractor.
