The markings mark the introduction of Shenzhen’s innovative pilot program regarding priority exiting for buses, which is the first of its kind in China. Studies have shown that during peak hours, a single bus can accommodate as many passengers as 60 cars, with buses utilizing road resources at just 4% of what cars do. Despite these advantages, buses often face challenges related to slow speeds and difficulties changing lanes, discouraging many potential passengers. The bus priority exiting trial aims to partly address these issues by improving bus departure efficiency from bus stops. The city’s transportation department plans to expand the pilot program by implementing at least 20 additional bus priority exit zones citywide by the end of this year.
