Dear editor, BEING a car driver myself, I have to have eyes everywhere and many times I have to take drastic action to avoid accidents because many road users do not pay attention or do not follow the rules. It is also sad that our schools do not seem to teach our children about road safety and traffic rules adequately. The reason, as I understand, is that the teachers do not score any merit points with that. So, we train our kids day in day out on all the subjects they need to get into the best universities, but then we send them “unprotected” out onto the streets. I thought we all loved our little princesses and princes so much? If anyone needs some proof of what I mentioned, I would say: just stand for 15 minutes on a busy intersection and count the number of traffic violations or just simply watch Douyin videos. More than enough examples, sadly. As for illegal parking, go to Sea World in Nanshan District and see how many cars are parked illegally while we have more than sufficient parking places. But the more expensive the car, the more likely it is they park illegally to avoid a few RMB payments. I just hope that one day we take traffic rules and the enforcement thereof more serious.
