AS many as 36 companies listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange managed to achieve a market capitalization exceeding 100 billion yuan (US$13.77 billion) by market close Wednesday last week.

These companies’ combined revenue jumped 14.18% year on year to 2.29 trillion yuan in the first half of the year, according to data provided by the Shenzhen bourse.

As of Thursday, a total of 2,812 companies listed in Shenzhen issued their first-half financial reports for 2023.

These firms reported growth in both operating revenues and net profits in the second quarter, indicating improved business performances among listed firms, the Shenzhen exchange said.

These firms raked in a total of 5.2 trillion yuan in operating revenues in the second quarter, up 12.30% from the previous quarter, data from the Shenzhen bourse showed.

During the April-June period, the net profits of these firms grew 10.54% quarter on quarter to 308.32 billion yuan.

In the first half, 2,225 Shenzhen-listed companies were profitable, accounting for 79.13% of the total. Among them, 863 companies reported profits exceeding 100 million yuan, with 234 companies’ profits surpassing 500 million yuan.

In the first half, the top 100 Shenzhen-listed firms by market value reported year-on-year increase of 12.97% in revenue and 10.12% in net profit.

The combined revenues of the 1,313 firms listed on the ChiNext market of the Shenzhen exchange came in at 1.78 trillion yuan in the first half, up 10.36% year on year. (Wang Jingli)
