THE trip between Shenzhen and Meizhou in northeastern Guangdong will be cut to 1.5 hours from 6 hours when the Meizhou-Longchuan High-speed Railway is put into operation next year, according to Shenzhen transport bureau Tuesday.
The 94-kilometer-long railway, which will link Mexian, Wuhua and Xingning in Meizhou and Longchuan in Heyuan, is expected to operate next June.
The railway will link up with the Meizhou-Shantou High-speed Railway at Meizhou West Station and the Ganzhou-Shenzhen High-speed Railway at Longchuan West Station.
The rail, the first railway project independently invested and constructed by Guangdong Province, is designed at a speed of up to 350 kilometers per hour.
The 7,377-meter Xiahuangtian Tunnel, the longest tunnel of the Meizhou-Longchuan railway, was completed at the end of last month, marking the completion of all 52 tunnels along the line, according to China Railway Construction Corporation Ltd.
Meizhou, 345 kilometers from Shenzhen, is one of the main settlements of Hakka people, featuring time-honored Hakka traditional culture and buildings. |
