Admiring global watercolor art at SZ biennale
    2023-09-14  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

ART enthusiasts can admire more than 200 paintings at the Third Shenzhen International Watercolor Biennale, reflecting the thriving development of global watercolor art.

The exhibits were selected from 4,000 paintings by artists from 48 countries and regions. Many adopt new techniques and new materials, endowing watercolor art with refreshing visual effects.

U.S. painter John Salminen’s paintings often depict urban scenes ranging from busy city streets to industrial landscapes. He has a unique ability to convey the mood, atmosphere and character of each location through his expert use of light, shadow and texture. His works are characterized by their strong compositions, dramatic perspectives, and intricate architectural elements.

Australian painter David Taylor’s paintings often evoke a sense of serenity, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the beauty of landscapes. Taylor employs a realistic and precise style. He pays special attention to capturing intricate details and textures, from the lush foliage of trees to the gentle ripples on water surfaces.

British painter John Yardley’s watercolor paintings often feature loose, flowing brushwork and a delicate balance of colors. His ability to convey emotion and capture the essence of a scene has made him a respected figure in the art community.

Bulgarian painter Atanas Matsoureff is known for his expressive works. His paintings often depict scenes from nature, still life compositions, and figures, often with a highly dynamic approach.

British painter Lillias August is an award-winning member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colors. From open landscapes to still life, her work reflects a love of strong, simple subject matter.

British painter David Poxon’s mastery lies in his ability to manipulate the watercolors to create fluid and lively compositions. His paintings often exhibit a sense of spontaneity and energy, with bold brushstrokes and a harmonious use of color.
