THE Nezha Sailing CEIBS Junior Team from Shenzhen clinched the championship in the unified category of the Keelboat FARR230 at the 2023 Haikou Cup ASA Asia-Pacific Youth Elite Sailing Championship, which concluded Wednesday.

The all-student Shenzhen team outperformed nine other teams from Guangzhou, Haikou, Foshan, and Hangzhou.

The team members are Peng Yurang and Lin Xiaohu from Nanshan Huitong School, Tong Hanlin from Shenzhen University Affiliated School International Division, and Ren Enyi from Shenzhen Experimental School.

Reflecting on their victory, Ren, a 13-year-old eighth-grade student, said, “I still feel like it’s a dream. This is my first competition, and sailing is a great sport. I rely on my teammates, and sailing responds dynamically to any movements or operational changes.”

Peng, 15, acknowledged the fierce competition but expressed his excitement at winning the championship. Peng started sailing in 2021 and is the founding member of Huitong Sailing Club.

“The triumph not only highlights their exceptional skills, but also underscores Shenzhen’s commitment to fostering a sports culture that embraces zero carbon footprint and international sporting standards,” Deng Sanhong, chairwoman of CEIBS Alumni Sailing Association Greater Bay Area Chapter, said during an interview.
