Cantonese opera

The world-famous Vienna Boys’ Choir will enchant locals with their beautiful voice Friday night. Béjart Ballet Lausanne will present contemporary ballet shows which combine traditional ballet with elements of modern dance and multimedia.

Symphony, folk music, violin

Iranian-born conductor Alexander Rahbari will lead the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra on Thursday to perform Tchaikovsky’s “Symphony No. 5” and Dvořák’s “Cello Concerto in B Minor” with German cellist Niklas Eppinger as soloist. Chinese musician Zhang Weiliang, a flute, xiao and xun artist, will present an evening of Chinese folk tunes Saturday. On Sunday, Russian violinist Vadim Repin will collaborate with pianist Svetlana Smolina to play pieces by Debussy, Grieg and Franck.

Trio, quartet

Young Chinese violinist Mao Yiming will collaborate with guitarist Pu Xiaobo and cellist Chen Yiqiu to play pieces by Paganini, Lobos, Diego, Gnattali, Zenamon and Piazzolla on Saturday. The following evening, veteran cellist Chu Yibing will lead his cello quartet to play tunes by Rossini, Lucia, Pixinguinha, Boismortier, Wagner, Gershwin, Tchaikovsky, Fitzenhagen and Popper.

‘Thumberlina’

The Yerevan State Puppet Theater from Armenia will present “Thumbelina” adapted from Anderson’s timeless fairytale at two shows in Nanshan and Futian respectively. The puppet theater was founded in 1935 and is also the location of the Pavlos Boroyan Puppet Museum, where about 200 exhibits are presented.

The Beijing Modern Dance Company will stage the dance drama “First Love,” which portrays a group of ambitious young people pursuing their dreams in a bustling city. Enhanced by the familiar melodies of beloved Chinese pop songs, the show expresses the youth’s thoughts and perspectives on life.
