A TOTAL of 1,273 enterprises from Shenzhen attended the 134th China Import and Export Fair, also known as the Canton Fair, that opened in Guangzhou on Sunday.

The fair will run until Nov. 14 in three sessions.

The number of booths and brands from Shenzhen increased by 11% and 48%, respectively, compared with last year, data showed.

Among the participating Shenzhen enterprises, 221 are State-level high-tech enterprises, up by 43% compared with the previous fair.

According to the organizer, 28,533 enterprises attended the fair, with 27,883 for the export section and 650 from 43 countries and regions for the import section. In the import section, 60% of the exhibitors come from countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

At a news conference Saturday, Xu Bing, deputy director of the China Foreign Trade Center, said that a staggering 100,000 buyers from 215 countries and regions had registered for the fair.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the BRI, and over the past decade, the proportion of buyers from BRI countries has shot up from 50.4% to 58.1%.
