THE major structure of the Ecological Bridge linking Meilin and Yinhu mountains in Futian District has been completed and the bridge is set to be put into use before the end of the year.
The bridge is considered the first landmark project under the city’s Mountain-Sea Linkage Program, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.
The two mountains, boasting the largest cluster of forested green spaces in the central area of Shenzhen, have long provided hiking and leisure opportunities for some 3 million residents in the surrounding region. However, these natural retreats were separated by the presence of Meiguan Road. To facilitate both human and wildlife movement, the city undertook the construction of the ecological bridge connecting the two mountains.
According to the project’s contractor, the bridge spans 60 meters in length, stands 15.3 meters above the ground, and ranges from 35.5 to 48.4 meters in width. The bridge is thoughtfully designed to accommodate both pedestrians and wildlife. It forms an integral part of the broader effort to connect Lianhua Hill Park, Bijia Hill Park, Central Park, Meilin Mountain Park, and Yinhu Mountain Park.
