A visually impaired man checks a tactile map for the blind near a pedestrian overpass in Futian District. Significant efforts are under way in Shenzhen to enhance accessibility for visually impaired individuals. The latest addition to these efforts is the introduction of a comprehensive blind navigation system at pedestrian overpasses in Futian District. At these overpasses, visually impaired individuals will find tactile maps, handrail nameplates and QR codes that provide information about their location, nearby landmarks, and the correct path to follow. By the end of this year, the innovative approach will be rolled out to cover 14 pedestrian overpasses with high foot traffic, as the city actively works to translate its commitment to creating a barrier-free environment into concrete actions that enhance the ease of travel for disadvantaged groups.
