SHENZHEN has secured a spot on the list of China’s top 10 science fiction (sci-fi) cities, according to a report released at the 81st World Science Fiction Convention, which concluded in Chengdu on Sunday.

The other nine cities on the list are Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Nanjing, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Xi’an, and Hangzhou.

The report assessed these sci-fi cities from four aspects, namely sci-fi ecology, industrial development, dissemination of sci-fi culture, and empowerment, which were further divided into 11 sub-indexes.

San Feng, chief researcher of the Shenzhen Science and Fantasy Growth Foundation, said a genuine sci-fi city should be characterized by a robust cultural creation ecosystem, a thriving sci-fi industry, and the capability to integrate sci-fi into education, culture, tourism, and scientific innovation.
