Blast kills 1

ONE person was confirmed dead and another was severely injured in an explosion in a residential community in Meihekou, Jilin Province, yesterday, China Central Television reported.

Another 15 people received minor injuries, the report said.

After a preliminary investigation, authorities suspected that the explosion was caused by improper use of gas by residents.

Weather station

A CHINESE research team announced Monday that it has built an automated weather station at a 5,896-meter altitude in the Kunlun Mountains in Northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

The new station, launched Sunday, is now the highest in the Kunlun Mountains. It marked the completion of the observation station network in the middle section of the Kunlun Mountains on the northern slope of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, known as the “roof of the world.”

Museum visits

THE Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum, which houses the world-renowned iconic Terracotta Warriors in Xi’an, capital of Northwest China’s Shaanxi Province, welcomed its 10 millionth visitor in 2023 Monday, hitting a record high, local authorities said.

Nearly 150 million visits, from both home and abroad, have been recorded at the museum since it opened in 1979.

In recent years, museum visits have become a must-do activity for tourists in China. As one of the most popular destinations in Shaanxi, the Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum has experienced a consistently high number of visitors since this summer.
