AFTER touring 28 Chinese cities and Singapore, the Shenzhen original dance drama “Wing Chun” will make its return to Shenzhen from today to Sunday at the Shenzhen Poly Theater and mark its 100th performance.

A meeting was held at the Shenzhen Grand Theater yesterday afternoon to provide an overview of the “Wing Chun” tour, encourage the creative transformation of excellent traditional Chinese culture, and promote and popularize more selected literary and artistic works from Shenzhen at home and abroad.

The meeting kicked off with  a red carpet show of the cast of the drama and a flash mob.

“In the process of creating ‘Wing Chun,’ we have a genuine sense that the city is very inclusive and everyone is hands-on,” Zhou Liya, a director of “Wing Chun,” shared on the stage. “We hope to have more beautiful stories about this beautiful and inclusive city in the future.”

Chang Hongji, who plays Yip Man in the dance drama and chief dancer of the Shenzhen Opera and Dance Theater, said Shenzhen never withholds from providing opportunities for young people.

He expressed his gratitude to the city for giving young dancers a safe haven and stage for their performances and creations, and for allowing them to advance fearlessly.

“Ever since I joined the art troupe two years ago, I have been greatly impacted by the Shenzhen Opera and Dance Theater team’s hard work, perseverance, courage, and dedication. We strive to make progress every day. Isn’t that a perfect representation of Shenzhen’s work ethic?” Chang said.

“Wing Chun,” a phenomenal dance drama that has taken China by storm since its premiere at the end of 2022, garnered rave reviews during its overseas debut in Singapore from Sept. 27 to 30.
