Youth forum

THE World Youth Develop-ment Forum opened in Beijing on Monday, with 100 projects related to the global youth development action plan released.

The cooperation projects, which were selected from 43 countries around the globe, center on topics such as food security, digital technology application, and poverty and hunger elimination, according to the forum’s organizer. Approximately 2,000 youth representatives from China and abroad attended the forum online or on-site. The event is themed “Youth Strength for Solidarity and Innovation: Striving Together for Sustainable Development.”

DNA damage atlas

CHINESE scientists have developed an atlas of high-throughput sequencing DNA damage and repair, which could help in promoting tumor prevention and treatment.

DNA damage and its improper repair are the major source of genomic alterations responsible for many human diseases, particularly cancer. However, a comprehensive database is still lacking despite the rapid accumulation of published datasets.

The researchers from the Center for Excellence in Molecular Cell Science, under the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Guangzhou Medical University, have presented the DNA damage atlas (DDA), which is the first large-scale repository of DNA damage and repair information.

Illegal detection sites

CHINESE authorities have discovered hundreds of illegal foreign-affiliated meteorological detection sites transmitting weather data to other countries in real-time during an ongoing nationwide special operation, according to an official post.

The Ministry of State Security said that these illegal sites were found in more than 20 provinces, posing risks to national security.

Since the beginning of this year, three government bodies — the Ministry of State Security, the China Meteorological Administration and the National Administration of State Secrets Protection — have carried out a nationwide operation to inspect the management of foreign-affiliated meteorological detection sites in accordance with the law.
