THE total cargo throughput at Xiaomo Port exceeded 1 million tons in the first 10 months of the year, marking a remarkable growth of 136.65% year on year and setting a new record for the same period in the port’s history.
The port’s car exports via roll-on/roll-on ships reached 15,000 units, accounting for about 30% of Shenzhen’s total vehicle exports so far this year, data from the Shenzhen Municipal Transport Bureau showed.
The port, adjacent to the BYD Automotive Industrial Park in the Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone, has established a partnership with BYD to enhance its export capabilities.
The port’s roll-on/roll-off ship transportation service commenced four months after its inauguration in December 2021. It has since expanded its reach, initiating a branch route with Shanghai Port for international logistics and establishing international shipment routes connecting to the Persian Bay, Southeast Asian countries, and the Mediterranean Sea region.
The port’s roll-on/roll-off export volume has been on the rise, increasing from an initial 214 vehicles to its current level of 3,400 units. So far this year, the port has completed 12 shipments of exported vehicles.
Xiaomo Port’s Phase 1 project was designed to have an annual throughput capacity of 4.5 million tons, featuring two berths capable of accommodating vessels with capacities of 100,000 tons each, along with one berth designed for 50,000-ton vessels.
The port boasts a 260,000-square-meter yard that can accommodate 14,000 vehicles. As part of its long-term vision, Xiaomo Port aims to construct a total of 26 berths, with a projected annual throughput capacity of 75 million tons. |
