Trade with BRI countries reaches 944 billion yuan

SHENZHEN’S trade with Belt and Road partner countries reached 944 billion yuan (US$129.72 billion) in the first nine months of the year, an increase of 12.4% year on year and a new historic record since the Belt and Road Initiative was proposed.


In particular, the exports of “three new items” such as lithium batteries, electric vehicles, and solar cells reached 25.47 billion yuan, up by 77% year on year, data from Shenzhen Customs showed.


Between January and September, the general trade between Shenzhen and BRI partner countries reached 603.5 billion yuan, up by 21.3%, accounting for 63.9% of the total trade with BRI partner countries.


Private enterprises’ trade with BRI countries reached 684.55 billion yuan, accounting for 72.5% and increasing by 19.8% year on year. Trade of foreign-invested enterprises reached 192.84 billion yuan, up by 0.3%.


Expansion in emerging markets enabled Shenzhen’s trade with ASEAN countries to rise by 7.8% to 437.6 billion yuan, accounting for 46.4% of the total trade. Trade with the Middle East, Africa, and Russia has also seen an increase of over 44%, with a total of 185.76 billion yuan.


Exports of electrical and mechanical products increased by about 20% to 377.15 billion yuan, accounting for 67.3% of the total trade with BRI partner countries.


Among the electrical and mechanical products, exports of computers and their parts and components, and mobile phones reached 35.46 billion yuan and 16.74 billion yuan, an increase of 23.3% and 43.6%, respectively, according to the official data.
