U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for creativity, courage, and commitment from young people when he delivered an address via video to the 19th China National Model United Nations Conference (CNMUN) held at Shenzhen University (SZU).

“The United Nations is striving to build a more just, sustainable, inclusive, and peaceful world for all,” Guterres said during the opening ceremony of the conference Friday.

The conference, which wrapped up yesterday, attracted nearly 300 participants from 74 universities. They engaged in debates on diverse development issues such as political security, culture, agriculture, climate, and aviation, with the aim of promoting international problem resolution.

The conference featured a secretariat and a presidium, with 12 members of the secretariat being students or graduates of SZU.

Since its inception in 2004, the annual CNMUN has evolved into the most authoritative and authentic MUN simulation in China. It seeks to instill U.N. values and knowledge among college students, fostering international citizenship awareness.

Yuan Keyi, a participant from SZU, expressed her aspiration to study global issues from the perspectives of different countries and regions, enhance global awareness, and join other young people in making positive contributions to build a more peaceful, stable, and prosperous world.
