AS the clock ticks down to 2024, running enthusiasts are gearing up for the much-anticipated return of the Shenzhen Dapeng New Year Marathon, which is scheduled to commence at 7:30 a.m. Jan. 1, 2024.

The starting point for the event will be the Dapeng Peninsula National Geopark, with registration now available through the “深圳大鹏新年马拉松” WeChat account.

After a three-year hiatus, the marathon is making a comeback, offering 4,000 spots for runners. The focus will primarily be on recruiting full-distance marathon runners, extending the route to 42.2 kilometers. The organizing committee will also arrange running categories tailored to various groups, including charities and organizations, elites, and students, with further details set to be unveiled in the coming days.

The marathon route will start at the geopark at the foot of Qiniang Mountain, weaving through scenic spots such as Yangmeikeng, Longcheer Yacht Club, Dapeng Fortress, Jiaochangwei, Dongshan Temple, and other cultural tourist attractions. The Yangmengkeng-Luzui Villa section of the route promises breathtaking views of mountains and the sea.

Now entering into its 10th year, the Dapeng marathon will provide participants and spectators alike with an exciting and fun-filled event.
