International Piano Concerto Competition in town

THE Fifth China Shenzhen International Piano Concerto Competition is being held at Shenzhen Concert Hall through Nov. 24, with 16 concerts and 10 masterclasses.

A total of 29 young talented pianists from 14 countries and regions will present local music lovers with an engaging and multifaceted experience.

Esteemed Chinese piano educator Dan Zhaoyi serves as artistic director of the competition and Central Conservatory of Music piano professor Wu Ying is executive chairman of the jury.

The jury members are Vincenzo Balzani (Italy), Michel Béroff (France), Chen Sa (China), Christian Ehwald (Germany), Krzysztof Jablonski (Poland), Alexander Korsantia (U.S.), Gabriel Kwok (China), Maxim Mogilevsky (Russia), Leonel Morales Alonso (Spain), John O’Conor (Ireland), Ekaterina Popowa-Zydro (Poland) and Jan Jiracek von Arnim (Germany).

The Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra (SZSO) will accompany the concerts during the competition. Lin Daye, the SZSO’s artistic director and principal conductor, and Stefan Vladar, the Theater Lübeck’s music director and the Neuberger Kulturtage’s artistic director, will wield the baton.

As a distinguished member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions, the China Shenzhen International Piano Concerto Competition holds a prominent position in China and wields a significant global influence. The previous four editions have showcased Shenzhen’s image on the global stage through a wide range of events.

Competition: 7:30 p.m., Nov. 15-19, 21-23 (Nov. 15 also at 9:30 a.m., 2 p.m.)

Closing concert: 7:30 p.m., Nov. 24
