TÜV Rheinland, a Germany-based third-party testing, inspection and certification service provider, has expanded its innovative test and certification services in China by covering a wider variety of sectors focusing on green, low-carbon and healthy living.

An event was held in Shenzhen on Friday to launch the new services, which cover areas such as hearing care, eye protection for displays, cleaning and sterilization of household appliances, and carbon reduction.

TÜV Rheinland expects that these services can assist businesses in advancing on the path of scientific and sustainable development.

The German firm’s annual new services launch event for the Greater China region started in Shenzhen in 2016. Over the past years of adhering to the development of new services, TÜV Rheinland has always been focusing on promoting high-quality industry development and providing consumers with higher quality experiences, according to Jay Yang, vice president of TÜV Rheinland Greater China Electrical.

“Now, environmental protection and healthy lifestyles have become new trends consumers have been pursuing. In response to this, TÜV Rheinland has developed a range of innovative service solutions. We look forward to working together with companies to create a future that meets the long-term needs of humans and the environment,” Yang said.

By introducing sustainable solutions and certification standards at the product level, including verification of recycled material products, product carbon footprint certification and product carbon reduction certification, one of TÜV Rheinland’s new services is addressing the global concerns of climate change and sustainable development.

The German firm has also introduced a carbon calculation platform called “Carbon Star” to promote energy-saving and emission-reducing technological upgrades, and provide quantitative data for achieving greenhouse gas emission reduction goals.

With the widespread use of audio devices, hearing loss has become increasingly evident, especially among teenagers, TÜV Rheinland’s new “hearing care certification” program, which sets standards for high sound pressure levels and exposure duration, is meant to address this issue.

Founded in Cologne in 1872, Germany-headquartered TÜV Rheinland expanded into China in the 1980s and has set up offices in more than 20 cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

The firm has been operating in Shenzhen for nearly 30 years.

At a client appreciation event also held Friday, Tina Jiang, managing director of TÜV Rheinland Shenzhen office, thanked local governments, businesses, partners and industry associations for their support and trust.

She said that TÜV Rheinland Shenzhen will actively seek to integrate into the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and increase investment and talent cultivation in areas such as artificial intelligence, 5G, new energy vehicles, carbon services, new materials, smart health care, information security and vocational education.
