AFTER three months of exciting sports events, the First Talent Maluan Sportsmanship Campaign of Overseas Elite Universities concluded with a fun sports competition and a closing ceremony Nov. 12 at the Shenzhen Pingshan Experimental School of Northeast Normal University in Pingshan District. The London School of Economics and Political Science alumni team won the championship of the campaign which kicked off in August. During the campaign, over 500 alumni from 74 prestigious universities worldwide competed in six events, including Frisbee, badminton, tennis, five-a-side soccer, point orienteering, mountain climbing and other fun sports. These events took place at Pingshan Soccer Park, Shenzhen Technology University, Maluan Mountain Park and Gemdale Tennis Court. The participating alumni hailed from distinguished institutions such as Harvard, Cambridge, Columbia, MIT, Imperial College London, London School of Economics and Political Science, University College London, National University of Singapore, University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Edinburgh, among others. The sports fest not only showcased the alumni’s sporting prowess and determined spirit, but also promoted exchange and fostered friendship among them. “This trophy bears witness to the dedication of our team members. We participated in every game and performed well in each round, which ultimately led us to be the champion,” Guo Zhaobin, team leader of the London School of Economics and Political Science alumni team, said. Chen Yu, a law major who graduated from the University of Edinburgh, expressed: “I am very grateful to the organizers for giving us the opportunity to join this event. Through the campaign, we have the chance to get to know Pingshan and its rapid development, and experience its strong atmosphere of respecting talents.” An alumnus named Li Meiqi said: “This meanful sports competition turned us, who didn’t know each other, into good friends. We hope this kind of event can continue, and we would like to participate again next year.” As the inaugural sports event for overseas talents in Shenzhen, the campaign aims to showcase the city’s openness, vitality, innovation, diversity and inclusiveness, while also demonstrating Pingshan’s determination to attract and retain talents. In recent years, Pingshan has issued various policies and held activities to promote talent development.
