AN intelligent buried waste compression station has been constructed as a pocket park on Taohua Road in the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone in south Futian. Covering an area of 939.6 square meters, this station and park embraces the concept of a zero-waste city, which ensures that all waste produced in the city is reused, recycled or composted. Utilizing limited green space, the pocket park is artistically adorned with discarded wires, circuit boards, glass, PVC pipes, bottle caps, metals, as well as reclaimed wood, tree bark, bricks and gravel. The park also serves as an educational spot for promoting environmental protection. In contrast to conventional multi-story waste equipment, the intelligent buried waste compression station in Hetao only exposes two flippers on the ground, acting as disposal ports. The waste is funneled into two buried compression containers, each capable of holding 10 tons. By compressing the waste on-site, this innovative approach optimizes ground space. The station can manage 50 tons of wastes per day and incorporates three deodorizing systems to prevent odor leakage. Noise emissions from station operations are also kept below 65 decibels, ensuring minimal disturbance to the public. (Cao Zhen) |
