EXPERTS and industry leaders exchanged ideas on enhancing human resources (HR) services for the real economy at the Second National Conference on the Development of Human Resources Services that kicked off at Hall 17 of the Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center in Bao’an District yesterday.

The two-day event, co-hosted by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and the Guangdong Provincial Government, is presenting the latest philosophies and tools in human resources management, exploring innovative development in the field.

“The contemporary industrial system, anchored in the real economy and manufacturing, depends on human resource support. Implementing effective and efficient human resource strategies and mechanisms becomes instrumental in empowering the high-quality development of an organization,” Wang Laichun, chairwoman and general manager of Luxshare Precision, China’s most prominent player in the Apple supply chain, said in a speech at the opening ceremony.

Wang added that in this era of digitization, where technological innovation advances at an unprecedented rate, enterprises must consistently absorb, cultivate, and motivate talents to maintain competitiveness and lead in development.

Xue Qikun, president of the Southern University of Science and Technology, emphasized the alignment of talent cultivation with national strategies such as carbon neutrality and carbon peak.

“Universities should cultivate talents and construct a tech innovation system that respond to the needs of national strategies, contributing to significant social changes,” Xue said.

Wei Jie, a well-known economist and professor at Tsinghua University, elaborated on China’s macroeconomic development, focusing on trade, consumption, and investments. He recommended government measures to improve income levels, ensure the rights of first-line laborers, enhance projects related to people’s well-being, and optimize the employment environment.

This year’s two-day conference features exhibitions, forums, competitions, and a large job fair.

During the conference, 144 human resources service agencies and key enterprises from Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao are organizing roadshows for some new technologies and products.

The 2023 GBA Talents Fair and the 27th National Autumn Fair for Graduates, integral parts of the conference, are offering 50,000 job vacancies, with 1,395 enterprises from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) participating.

“This is the largest job fair I have attended in recent years, and we have received a lot of applications from jobseekers, including students from overseas,” said Zhu Yijiao, a human resources business partner from Richinfo, an internet company planning to recruit 60 people for its IT positions.

Li Liying, a student from Hong Kong CityU, attended with the hope of finding a job in the GBA, a region with strong incentives and a solid foundation for personal growth.

Data from the Shenzhen Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau showed that Shenzhen boasted 1,922 human resources agencies and 39,000 employees in the human resource industry as of the end of September. The industry posted a revenue of 76.4 billion yuan (US$10.72 billion) between January and September, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 23.8%.
