CHINA will pilot the construction of service facilities embedded in the public space of residential areas in about 50 cities to provide one-stop community services for residents, according to a plan formulated by the National Development and Reform Commission yesterday.

These facilities aim to offer residents accessible and affordable quality services in fields including elderly and child care, food serving, health service, sports, and leisure activities, says the plan forwarded by the General Office of the State Council.

Students killed

FOUR teens and a woman died following a two-vehicle collision in Toronto, Canada, late Saturday, local police said Sunday.

The Chinese Consulate General in Toronto has confirmed that the four teenagers aged 15-17 are international students from China.

Police said the crash occurred between a westbound Mercedes SUV and an eastbound Ford SUV. Police said the teenagers were inside the Mercedes and pronounced dead at the scene.

Strong cold wave

A STRONG cold front will sweep vast parts of China in the coming days, leading to temperature plunges, gales, and snow, said the country’s meteorological authority Sunday.

Temperatures in most areas north of the Yangtze River in China will drop by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius, with parts of Inner Mongolia and Northeast China expected to see temperature declines up to 12 degrees, the National Meteorological Center said.
