SHENZHEN has claimed the top spot in China’s Top 100 Cities with Foreign Trade Competitiveness list, which was released by the General Administration of Customs on its official website recently.

Following closely are Shanghai, Suzhou, Ningbo, and Guangzhou, securing the second to fifth positions, respectively. In addition to Shenzhen and Guangzhou, Dongguan and Zhuhai from Guangdong Province have also entered the top 10, securing the eighth and ninth places, respectively, while Foshan claimed the 12th spot.

Among the top 100 cities, China’s eastern region dominated the list, with 60 in the list and 10 in the top 10. Twenty-six cities from the central region entered the list, with Wuhan as the highest-ranking at 14th. Ten cities from the western region, and four cities from the northeast region made it to the list, with Xi’an and Dalian as the highest ranking at 20th and 42nd, respectively.

In 2022, among the top 20 cities in China in terms of the value of foreign trade, 14 cities made it to the top 20 cities in comprehensive foreign trade competitiveness, showing a decrease of two cities compared to 2021. This indicates a somewhat weakened role of scale and volume in supporting the foreign trade competitiveness of cities.
