Packaging design by SZTU team wins prestigious award
    2023-12-05  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE project “Ji Guang LED” designed by a team from Shenzhen Technology University (SZTU) stood out among nearly 10,000 submissions and won the Red Dot Award in the packaging design category recently, SZTU announced.

The team is composed of Chen Yongjun, a professor from SZTU’s School of Design and Innovation, and students from the school including Chen Huanzhou. Their inspiration for the project stemmed from discussions with lighting companies in Zhongshan, where they identified a lack of innovative packaging affecting product quality, brand image, and production efficiency.

Addressing these challenges, Professor Chen incorporated the specific needs of enterprises into the project research. The design introduces a paper-based structure for the inner and outer packaging of LED lamps, providing secure bulb placement while minimizing material usage.

The simple yet effective structure not only reduces costs significantly but also enhances labor efficiency. Importantly, it promotes a green and eco-friendly design by eliminating the need for cushioning fillers, thereby minimizing waste.

The design has garnered attention from various enterprises, paving the way for its commercialization.

Professor Chen has previously won a series of accolades, including the iF Design Award, Green Design International Award, and the WorldStar Packaging Awards.
