A SHORT video produced by Shenzhen Daily won the third prize at the “China in the Eyes of the Young” — Chinese and Foreign Short Videos Screening and Award Ceremony during the 2023 Understanding China Conference that concluded in Guangzhou on Sunday.

The award-winning video, titled “Gao Min — A Messenger of Hope,” captures the daily life of Gao Min, a full-time organ donation coordinator for the Red Cross Society of China Shenzhen Branch. The video, skillfully crafted by reporters Lin Jianping and Zhang Yu, follows Gao as she navigates her daily responsibilities, visiting the police station, hospital, funeral home, and various other locations. It unveils the intricacies of her work, often referred to as the “loneliest job in the world,” where kindness resonates deeply.

Gao, a Guangdong good Samaritan and the first organ donation coordinator in China, goes beyond her duties by being a prolific blood donor, having contributed blood an astounding 400 times. In her role as an organ donation coordinator, she remains on call 24/7, exemplifying unwavering dedication to facilitating life-saving organ transplants.

The Chinese and Foreign Short Videos Screening and Award Ceremony was organized by the China Institute for Innovation & Development and National Geographic, in collaboration with Documentaries of CCTV.com, the School of Arts & Communication of Beijing Normal University, Docuchina.cn, and Documentary China.

Shenzhen News Group, to which Shenzhen Daily belongs, claimed three third-prize victories at the award ceremony.

Xie Ting, director of the digital product department at the Audio and Visual Center of Shenzhen News Group, shed light on the other winning entries.

According to Xie, “Reviewing Miracles on Top of Lianhua Hill,” a dynamic digital art presentation, showcases Shenzhen’s achievements over the past decade, while the other win features a Hong Kong youth sharing personal experiences and insights into Chinese culture via a vlog.
