THE first eight-carriage fully autonomous train for Metro Line 13 arrived at Neihu Depot, Shenzhen Bay Park in Houhai on Wednesday, gearing up for subsequent testing on the fully automated line.

According to HKMTR Shenzhen, the line’s operator, Line 13’s trains are equipped with the GoA4 transport system, the world’s highest-standard driverless train operating system. The trains are also equipped with a checking system capable of real-time monitoring, alarms, diagnostics, assessments, and analysis of operating systems. Safety features include object detection, collision prevention, and derailment checks.

Running south-north from Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint to Guangming District over a distance of 22.4 kilometers along Keyuan Boulevard, Tongfa Road, Shahe West Road, and Baoshi Road, the Line 13 route covers key areas such as Houhai CBD, Shenzhen Hi-tech Industrial Park, and the Liuxiandong Headquarters Base. It has 16 stations, with 12 of them being interchange stations.

The Metro line is expected to significantly improve traffic conditions in the Shenzhen Hi-tech Industrial Park area. Featuring five stations in the industrial park area, namely Songping, Kexing, Shenda, Shenda East, and Keyuan, the line is well-positioned to cater to the transportation needs of the technology sector.

As part of the comprehensive plan, an underground space spanning 100,000 square meters is slated for development, encompassing four out of the five stations situated between Songping and Keyuan.

Keyuan Boulevard, now renamed Chuangxin Boulevard, and its surrounding areas will be turned into a multifaceted space where transportation serves as the backbone, complemented by cultural, commercial, leisure, and entertainment functions.

Deng Xiaojun, vice general manager of CRRC CSR Sifang Co. Ltd., the manufacturer, said that Line 13’s trains are designed to be smarter in terms of operation, maintenance, and services. The monitoring system can track up to 2,600 pieces of train-related information in real time, with more than 100 alarm models for operators to manage the trains’ status.

The train boasts a 3D surrounding air conditioning system, which can adjust air supply based on temperature. The system can also control humidity and purify air to ensure optimal air quality inside the carriages. This advanced technology has also been implemented on Metro lines 12, 14, and 20.
