5th Expats Eye SZ Photo Contest winners announced

WINNERS of the fifth Expats Eye Shenzhen Photo Contest have been unveiled.


This year’s contest was held from July 20 to Sept. 15, and was divided into humanistic and nature categories. The organizing committee has received over 1,000 entries submitted by over 110 contestants from 33 countries, including the U.S., the U.K., Russia, Ukraine, Japan, France, Malaysia, India, and Pakistan.


The humanistic category has one first prize, two second prizes, five third prizes, 15 merit prizes, and 31 finalist awards. The nature category has one first prize, two second prizes, four third prizes, five merit prizes, and nine finalist awards.


The first-prize winners will each receive a cash prize of 10,000 yuan (US$1,396); the second-prize winners will each receive 8,000 yuan; the third-prize winners will each receive 3,000 yuan; the merit-prize winners will each receive 1,000 yuan, and a prize of 800 yuan will be offered to each winner of the finalist awards.


The first-prize winners are the “People at Work” photo series by Anton Tsentalovich from Russia for the humanistic category and the “Their Lives in Shenzhen” photo series by Ashley Main from the U.K. for the nature category.


The second-prize winners are the “Sun Chasers in Wutong Mountain” photo series by Tsuruta Masayuki from Japan and “Nature’s Majesty” by Karla Judith Perez Sesma from Mexico for the humanistic category, and the “Nature of the Night” photo series by Jeremy David Smith from Canada and the “Commonly-Seen Birds in Shenzhen” photo series by John Roger Speakman from the U.K. for the nature category.


The third-prize winners for the humanistic category are “The Dancer Master” by Tatiana Bastidas from Colombia, “Cruise Dance” by Bahareh Eghbalbehbahani from Iran, the “World of Mortals” photo series by J. Eduardo Campos from Mexico, “The Storm” by Craig Hickerson from the U.S., and “Pride” by Joshua Fernandez from the U.S.


The third-prize winners for the nature category are the “Shenzhen’s diBirdcity” photo series by Isaac Cohen from Colombia, “Mangrove Paradise” by Matteo Convertino from Italy, the “Motion and Rest” photo series by Teo Wei Tiong from Singapore, and “When You Got to Go, You Got to Go” by Thomas Edison Harvey from the U.S.


The humanistic category (C1) accepted entries related to Shenzhen’s cityscape, urban life, cultural heritages, sports and arts, international communities, and more; while the nature category (C2) accepted entries on Shenzhen’s natural landscape and ecology (animals and plants).


The contest is hosted by the Information Office of the Shenzhen Municipal Government and organized by EyeShenzhen.com, Shenzhen Daily, and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shenzhen Municipal Committee (CCPIT Shenzhen).
