SHENZHEN has been an exemplary model for Angola, offering numerous development experiences that are valuable to learn from, said Angola’s Foreign Minister Téte António during his visit to Shenzhen on Friday. In particular, António highlighted the importance of involving young people in social development.

Shenzhen Mayor Qin Weizhong met with António on the same day.

“Shenzhen is a city with a large number of young people, and Angola also has a large population of young people. Talent is wealth, and we hope to learn from Shenzhen’s experience and improve the technical level of young people in our country,” António said.

According to the foreign minister, Shenzhen-based enterprise Huawei has attached great importance to training young people in Angola. He hoped that more Chinese companies will enter the Angolan market and improve the technical capabilities of young people in various industries through training initiatives.

António also hoped to learn more from China’s development experience and Shenzhen’s reform and opening-up policies. “Angola should also improve the country’s development through reform.”

Impressed by the prevalence of new energy vehicles on Shenzhen streets, António identified the promising new energy sector as an area for potential collaboration between Angola and Shenzhen.

China and Angola on Wednesday signed an agreement in Beijing to facilitate and protect bilateral investment. The pact was signed by António and Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao.

António stated that the move not only provides more opportunities for businesses on both sides, but also brings tangible benefits to the people of both countries. “We attach great importance to cooperation with China. Through this visit, we hope to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, especially in agriculture, fisheries, transportation, and digital information industries.”

Angola has a superior geographical location, offering access to markets in central and southern Africa, according to António, adding that Chinese companies entering Angola can also tap into the huge potential of neighboring markets.

António paid an official visit to China from Tuesday to Friday at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Shenzhen was the second and last stop of his China visit.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Angola, which is China’s second-largest trading partner in Africa.
