World documentaries shown at Golden Kapok Screening

ACCLAIMED documentaries released this year and last year are being shown at the Ninth Golden Kapok Screening through Thursday at two Broadway cinemas in Shenzhen. All the documentaries are in their original languages with Chinese subtitles and only some have English subtitles.

Over the past weekend, “Anxious in Beirut,” “Against the Tide,” “Fragments From Heaven,” “Between the Rains,” “Caiti Blues,” “Becoming Giulia,” “Close to Vermeer” and “Leap of Faith” were shown.

‘The Third Pole’ (2023)

Plot: In the picturesque Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, there are groups of rare animals, such as pikas and golden snub-nosed monkeys. Within the cycle of the four seasons, these fragile yet resilient lives are thriving generation after generation with extraordinary survival skills.

‘Objectos de Luz’ (2022)

‘Building’ (2022)

Plot: Directed by Ju Anqi, “Building” focuses on the conservation and revitalization of architectural heritage in Chinese metropolitan areas. Ju spent two years in interviewing more than 80 internationally acclaimed architects, experts, scholars, and practitioners to film the documentary.

Plot: David, an eccentric gay actor, is a Shakespeare-loving drama queen who has grown old on a diet of attention and applause.

‘Lynx Man’ (2023)

Plot: “Lynx Man” revolves around a bearded Finnish hermit who oscillates between sweating out his demons in a sauna, and crawling around the forest at night to document the endangered lynx.

‘Bitter Sweet Ballad’ (2023)

Plot: At the choir of the Dandelion School, Beijing’s first middle school specifically established for the children of migrant workers, students have been savoring the joys and sorrows of their youth along this journey accompanied by music.
