BRINGING together experts and insiders from the integrated circuit (IC) industry, the inauguration of the IC Valley Digital Tech Park, also known as IC Valley, took place yesterday at the Shenzhen park of the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone (HTCZ).

Spread across an area of around 20,000 square meters, the valley is a specialized hub integrating research and development, the transformation of scientific research achievements, and services within the IC industry.

On the opening day, IC companies and national-level laboratories, including the innovation center of STMicroelectronics, a global semiconductor company, Shenzhen Berxel Photonics Co. Ltd., a company dedicated to photoelectric semiconductor technology, and Shenzhen Futian UM Hetao IC Research Institute, announced their settlement in the valley.

“Futian District serves as one of the clusters for semiconductor and integrated circuit companies in Shenzhen. Recognizing this, HTCZ has consolidated representative projects in the IC industry,” Zhu Jiang, vice head of the Futian District Government, said. He added that the establishment of IC Valley will enhance talent and technological exchanges in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

“Most of our professors, researchers, and students conduct research on the university’s main campus in Macao. When these technologies are ready for the market, we require a platform on the mainland. Shenzhen offers abundant resources across the entire industrial chain and provides an active market. Thus, we seek swift transformation for mature technologies in Shenzhen,” Elvis Mak, dean of Shenzhen Futian UM Hetao IC Research Institute, said during an interview yesterday.

“We aim to attract more talents and foster increased collaboration with enterprises in Shenzhen. Our objective is to have them establish a presence in IC Valley within the next one to two years. For our next step, we will consider injecting further resources into the platform,” Mak said.

Mak also highlighted their goal for patented technologies to align seamlessly with enterprises in Shenzhen. “We intend to develop customized technologies to address specific bottlenecks experienced by these firms,” Mak added.
