WANG MING, a young artist from Shenzhen, is currently showcasing her solo exhibition “Blue Shadow” at A/W Space in Nanjing, featuring a collection of her paintings.

Curated by Wen Tian, the exhibition will run until Jan. 20.

Born in Shenzhen in 1998, Wang earned her bachelor’s degree in illustration from the School of Visual Arts in New York City and later attained a master’s degree in visual arts from Colombia University. She now imparts her knowledge as a teacher at the School of Visual Arts.

Wang’s artworks have been exhibited in China, the U.S., and Sweden, illustrating realistic landscapes imbued with a twist showcasing her inner world. Her art seeks to narrate distinctive contemporary urban experiences.

In her latest series, Wang depicts blue shadows—abstract, faceless figures devoid of specific gender, nationality, or identity. These enigmatic figures serve as vessels for the sentiments of her generation.

Wang’s landscapes, though surreal, remain firmly rooted in realism. Through a deliberate interplay of expansive landscapes and diminutive figures, Wang portrays the overwhelming presence of the city, accentuating the struggles faced by individuals. Her figures transcend social identities, yet grapple with the journey of self-discovery.
