Coal mine accident

A COAL mine accident has left 12 dead and 13 others injured in Jixi City, Northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province, local authorities said.

The accident, which involved a coal wagon, took place at 3:50 p.m. Wednesday in the Kunyuan coal mine in Hengshan District, Jixi, according to the information office of the district government.

Direct passenger flight

CHINA Southern Airlines launched a direct passenger route linking South China’s Guangzhou and Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea (PNG), on Wednesday. It is the first regular commercial air route connecting the Chinese mainland and an island country in the Pacific.

Wildlife habitats

CHINA has introduced its inaugural list of key terrestrial wild animal habitats, incorporating areas that are home to over 82% of the country’s critically protected terrestrial species.

The 789 habitats consist of six categories, including regions where endangered species live and breed, and areas characterized by significant populations of wild animals.
